Footwear maker reports Rs 862 crore revenue in Q2FY27, while Ebitda margin declines to 16.7 per cent from 18.1 per cent a year ago

Bata India reported a 28.6 per cent year-on-year (YoY) rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 18 crore in the second quarter of FY27, compared with Rs 14 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Revenue from operations increased 7.6 per cent to Rs 862 crore during the quarter, against Rs 801 crore in Q2FY26. However, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) remained largely flat at Rs 144 crore, compared with Rs 145 crore a year earlier. Ebitda margin declined to 16.7 per cent from 18.1 per cent.

The footwear retailer attributed part of the pressure on its financial performance to one-time expenses during the quarter. These included a non-cash foreign exchange loss of Rs 3 crore on licence fees amid continued currency depreciation and an asset write-off of Rs 3.9 crore. Other income also declined by Rs 4.6 crore following the distribution of surplus funds worth Rs 321.3 crore through a special dividend during the quarter.

Commenting on the performance, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Sanjay S Rao, who assumed office on 1 October 2026, said the company recorded growth in like-for-like (LFL) sales and average selling prices (ASP) in its retail business. Its franchise and industrial and institutional (I&D) channels also registered double-digit growth. “Gross margin improved marginally, and operating performance continued to strengthen.”

Rao said inventory levels had improved in terms of both quantity and quality, with freshness reaching 92 per cent. Net stock was 7 per cent lower than the level recorded on 30 September 2025.

The company operates more than 2,000 stores, including franchise outlets, and serves over 3,800 key retail outlets (KROs).
