Sexual and Reproductive Health Services
Brief Overview of Sexual and Reproductive Health Services
Since its establishment in 1988, the Society for Health Education (SHE) has been committed to improving access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) information, education, and services across the Maldives. The Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Department promotes informed decision-making and supports individuals, families, and communities to achieve better sexual and reproductive health outcomes through evidence-based, rights-based, and client-centred approaches.
The department provides quality sexual and reproductive healthcare through clinic-based services, mobile outreach programs, health education, counselling, and community engagement, ensuring that services remain accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of diverse populations.
Clinical and Outreach Service
The department delivers a comprehensive range of sexual and reproductive health services through its static clinic and mobile outreach programs, bringing essential healthcare closer to communities throughout the Maldives.
Services include: · Sexual and reproductive health information and counselling
· Family planning information and services
· Maternal and reproductive healthcare
· Prevention, testing, counselling, and referral for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
· Gynaecological consultations
· Paediatric consultations
· Specialist consultations based on identified community needs and outreach objectives
These services are designed to promote preventive healthcare, early detection, informed decision-making, and improved access to quality sexual and reproductive health services.
Health Education and Community Engagement Health education is a core component of the department's work. SHE develops Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials and implements community education programs that provide accurate, evidence-based sexual and reproductive health information.
