An exciting opportunity to become part of the South African National Antarctic Programme (SANAP)! The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) has advertised several positions for the 2027–2028 overwintering expedition to Marion Island. Located in the remote sub-Antarctic Prince Edward Islands, Marion Island plays an important role in South Africa’s scientific research, environmental monitoring and conservation efforts. Each year, a dedicated overwintering team maintains the research station, supports scientific activities and contributes to South Africa’s long-standing presence in the Southern Ocean.
