Old Mutual Namibia Appoints Esther Akweenda to Expand Retail Investment Business. Old Mutual Investment Group Namibia (OMIGNAM) has appointed Esther Akweenda as Business Development Manager: Retail, as the investment firm looks to expand its presence in the country’s retail investment market and strengthen relationships with financial advisers, brokers and investment platforms.
Akweenda will lead retail distribution through the Old Mutual Unit Trust business, with responsibilities that include developing partnerships with independent financial advisers, growing external retail market share and increasing awareness of the group’s investment products.
OMIGNAM manages approximately N$64 billion in assets and offers money market, balanced and offshore investment funds. Its investment operations include local portfolio managers, with portfolio construction and investment decisions undertaken in Namibia.
Rex Mutelo, Business Development Executive at OMIGNAM, said the appointment supports the organisation’s plans to strengthen its retail business and extend access to its investment capabilities.
He highlighted the importance of connecting independent advisers and investment platforms with the group’s available investment solutions, adding that Akweenda’s experience in financial advice, broker distribution and relationship management would support these efforts.
Akweenda joins the position from within the Old Mutual Group, where she has worked since 2020. She initially joined Old Mutual Namibia as a Personal Financial Adviser before moving into a Broker Consultant role in 2023.
Her experience includes relationship management, portfolio growth and new business development.
