KEREA and CEN-CENELEC Strengthen Collaboration on Microgrids and Energy Resilience
Mombasa, Kenya | 31 July 2026
The Kenya Renewable Energy Association (KEREA), in collaboration with the European standards organisations CEN and CENELEC, convened a workshop on 31 July 2026 at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa. The workshop focused on the role of standards in supporting electronic microgrids and strengthening energy resilience in Kenya.
Held under the theme “Electronic Microgrids and Energy Resilience,” the event formed part of ongoing collaboration between European and African standards organisations. It brought together stakeholders to exchange perspectives on how common standards can support the development, deployment and reliable operation of microgrid systems.
Promoting Reliable and Resilient Microgrid Systems
Microgrids are an important part of the evolving energy landscape, offering opportunities to improve electricity access, integrate renewable energy sources and strengthen the reliability of local power systems. Their effective deployment depends not only on technology, but also on appropriate technical standards, safety requirements and consistent approaches to system design and operation.
The workshop provided a platform for discussions on how standards can help address these considerations and support the development of dependable microgrid solutions in Kenya.
As renewable energy technologies continue to advance, establishing clear and consistent standards can help improve system compatibility, support quality assurance and build confidence among developers, investors, service providers and energy users.
