Vrije Universiteit Brussel has some 20,000 students. It may seem a lot, but compared to other Flemish universities we are relatively small . And that is an asset. Because as a student at VUB, you are more than just a number . Here, we guide you personally in every phase of your student career. We hear your voice and bear your welfare in mind. Above all, we want you to succeed in your goal as a student: obtaining your diploma.

We are VUB. Vrije Universiteit Brussel. An internationally-orientated university in the heart of Europe. Our mission? To deliver high quality, tailored research and education. This is our way of contributing to a better world in an active and engaged way. In doing so we allow ourselves to be guided by the principles of the Enlightenment, and we value critical thought, free inquiry and a strong belief in human ability - yours too! - very highly.
We don’t undertake this mission alone, but with the entire VUB community, as we are convinced that we are stronger together. That sense of belonging drives us in everything we do. Decided to study at VUB? You will not be alone.

Small-scale and personal
Expect an interactive education, with time spent on theory and practice. You will develop skills such as empathic communication, cooperation, entrepreneurial and problem-solving thought and action. Because lessons are mainly in small groups, you get to know your professors and get quick answers to all your questions.
Up to date and relevant
Our study material and teaching methods are constantly adapted to your needs as a student and to our changing society. And our lecturers are firmly grounded in society. They will teach you today what the world needs tomorrow.
Tailored
Whether you’re a first year, elite athlete or work student, or at student with a disability: we pride ourselves on offering everyone equal educational opportunities. You can tailor your study path to your personal situation by spreading your course load and requesting flexible measures.
Supportive
Problem with your studies? Our study supervisors offer tailored advice and training. Need a sympathetic ear? Drop in to the student psychologists. Financial worries? You can count on support to keep your study costs manageable. Give us a shout and we’ll be there for you.
Engaged

We value your opinion
Our approach is democratic. This means that we also listen to your voice as a student when formulating our university policy, our educational programmes and our daily operation.
Become a student representative
The Student Council has a direct voice in how VUB operates. Do you feel the need to make your mark on policy and defend the interests of your fellow students? You can, if you are elected as a student representative.
Represent international students
Our National Student Council also has an international equivalent: the International Student Platform. As a member of this council, you translate the voices of international students and help to provide them with the best possible university experience.
