About Us

who we are

Empowering athletes to thrive in a secure and healthy sporting environment.

Safe Sport Foundation (SSF) is a leading Kenya-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting safety in sports. Our mission is to ensure that all individuals involved in sports can realize their full potential free from preventable medical risks. We recognize the vital role sports play in society and the profound positive impact they have on people’s lives. It is unacceptable that anyone should be denied the right to participate in sports safely.

our story

Safe Sport Foundation (SSF) was founded by Wycliff Omom, a seasoned sports medicine specialist with extensive experience in Kenya, East Africa, and across the African continent. His expertise in managing a wide range of sports injuries is reflected in his work with the Kenya national football team and Simba SC—one of Africa’s top football clubs based in Tanzania.

Many talented young athletes in Kenya come from underprivileged backgrounds. When they suffer injuries, they often lack access to proper medical care—either due to the unavailability of trained professionals or the financial means to seek treatment. Community teams also struggle to hire qualified medical personnel or afford even basic sports healthcare services. This leaves young athletes vulnerable, with their health, talent, and future at serious risk.

Additionally, many of these athletes lack essential safety gear such as shin guards, helmets, and other protective equipment—simply because they cannot afford them.

SSF was established in response to these critical challenges. Our goal is to bridge the gap by providing medical support, education, and resources that ensure young athletes can thrive in a safe sporting environment—free from preventable injuries.

What Makes Us Unique

At Safe Sport Foundation, we see it as our responsibility to bring together resources that help aspiring athletes overcome the challenges they face. We believe in the power of collaboration—partnering with like-minded individuals and institutions to drive transformative change in sports safety and health.

Whether working independently or with strategic partners across government, corporate, and non-profit sectors, our mission is to create opportunities and improve the well-being of sports participants at all levels. Our projects and programs are designed to make a measurable impact today, while serving as scalable, sustainable models for the future.

Our goal is simple: to maximize impact by using available resources efficiently—achieving better outcomes, faster, and at the lowest possible cost.

How we fund our work

Our charitable work is financed by contributions from benevolent funds, generous donations from public as well as partners grant supports.

Why We Help

We have witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by many young Kenyans in grassroots sports—where even minor injuries are often poorly managed due to a lack of professional medical care. In more severe cases, such as concussions, the absence of on-site ambulances or emergency response can lead to life-threatening complications, or even death.
