Green rejects claim of gov't deception in parliamentary motion on Cuba
12:08 am, Sat October 31, 2026
Floyd Green, Leader of Government Business in the House of Representatives
Leader of Government Business in the House of Representatives, Floyd Green, has strongly rejected claims by the opposition that it was deceived in the handling of the motion on the economic and humanitarian situation in Cuba.
The motion was debated and passed in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, ahead of the UN General Assembly's vote to
condemn the US embargo against Cuba.
Jamaica, in a departure from years of precedent, opted to abstain from the vote.
The opposition has cried foul, stating that the government was deceptive in its approach to the matter.
But Mr. Green has rejected the characterisation of the process as improper and unparliamentary, pointing out that the motion was read aloud in the House, debated by members on both sides, and passed without objection or amendment.
Mr. Green said no member of the opposition objected to the motion, moved an amendment or asked for the debate to be adjourned or deferred so that its wording could be examined.
