Location Benghazi, Libya

Category Civic & Urban

Primary Scope Waterfront Master Plan, Promenade Reconstruction & Event Infrastructure

Project Overview

Reconnecting the city to the Mediterranean with luminous public spaces and resilient coastal engineering.

The revitalisation of Benghazi’s historic waterfront for the Ramadan season and long-term public recreation, turning a damaged coastline into a brightly lit, safe, and culturally vibrant coastal boulevard.

The project encompassed complete shoreline stabilization, decorative promenade paving, continuous illuminated streetscapes, floating sea lanterns, festive pavilions, and community plazas. MERAAS coordinated civil works, marine edge reinforcement, electrical distribution, and event-ready utilities.

Engineered to withstand coastal marine exposure, all lighting fixtures, marine railings, and surface materials utilize corrosion-resistant finishes. The corniche welcomed thousands of families nightly, restoring civic vitality to Benghazi’s historic maritime core.
