applicants who are already studying at a Latvian HEI must also obtain a confirmation letter for their current or intended study programme;

International students may receive a Latvian state scholarship for a maximum of two semesters within a single study cycle.

The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF)
SYLFF programme(https://www.sylff.org/), implemented at the University of Latvia since 2002, provides financial support to outstanding master's and doctoral students in the humanities and social sciences, fostering the development of future leaders. Since the programme was introduced at the University of Latvia, 120 scholarship recipients have received SYLFF funding, contributing to the advancement of academic research in Latvia and internationally through their research and global experience.
Scholarship recipients are selected through a comprehensive evaluation of their academic and research achievements, motivation for graduate studies and research, as well as the interdisciplinary nature, objectives, content, and expected outcomes of their proposed research. Candidates' recommendations and their alignment with the mission of the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF) —to nurture the next generation of leaders—are also taken into account.
