Partnership possibilities and project collaboration
Project collaboration
Diak is a respected, experienced and experimental project partner. In addition to education, our core operations include research and development projects.
We carry out around 70 externally funded projects with our partners each year.
The objectives and contents of projects are closely linked to our competence areas: diaconia(https://www.diak.fi/en/research-and-development/holistic-diaconia/), diversity(https://www.diak.fi/en/research-and-development/inclusive-diversity-competence/), social innovations(https://www.diak.fi/en/research-and-development/social-innovations/) and impactful services(https://www.diak.fi/en/research-and-development/impactful-health-and-welfare-services/).
Our vision for projects
We work with our partners to improve services and promote the inclusion of vulnerable members of society.
We promote a multicultural and diverse working life and help to build an equal society where no one is left behind.
Together with our partners, we generate social innovations and promote social sustainability.

Recruit Diak students for work placements
Work placements are an important part of studying at an UAS, and all our students complete several work placement periods during their studies.
By offering work placements, you can build your employer brand and increase awareness of your organisation in the labour market.
A positive work placement experience will encourage students to seek employment in the same field, or even in the same organisation.
Interested in offering work placements?
If you have received an inquiry from a Diak student willing to complete his/her placement in your organisation, or if you are generally interested in recruiting our students for work placements in your organisation, get in touch with us and contact the Heads of Education(https://www.diak.fi/en/diak/contact-us/staff-directory/).
We will conclude a work placement agreement with you, which will cover your whole organisation (instead of e.g. an individual department).
The recruitment procedures vary depending on the field in question. Social service, health care and church organisations primarily publish work placements in the Jobiili system(https://www.jobiili.fi), which gives students easy access to information about available placements.
Individual paid placements can also be published in the student intranet as news items. Please contact the communications team at viestinta@diak.fi.

Jobiili reservation system for practice placements in health and social care
The health and social care programmes of Diak use the national practice placement reservation system Jobiili, which is used by all Finnish UAS institutions offering education in these fields. Jobiili can be accessed at jobiili.fi(https://www.jobiili.fi).
Placements are published in the system by employers independently.
Employees of the practice placement organisation have three possible roles in Jobiili: an administrator, a placement coordinator and a user with browsing access.

Tips for placement supervisors
Work placements are learning opportunities for students. They are also designed as opportunities for students to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice under supervision.
The placement supervisor is a professional of his or her field who introduces and supervises the student in the workplace. The supervisor supports the student’s professional growth and his or her development and learning process during the placement, encourages and motivates.
This page contains tips and advice on how to supervise placement periods effectively and productively.
A web-based app called Workseed is used at Diak. On Workseed, students set their personal learning objectives for each placement/clinical practice and record their working hours. Assessment is also done on Workseed. See Workseed instructions for placement supervisors in English(https://diak.screenstepslive.com/s/11159/m/117530/l/1687200-workseed-instructions-for-worklife-supervisors) and in Finnish(https://diak.screenstepslive.com/s/755/m/117529/l/1687172-workseed-ohjeet-harjoittelun-ohjaajille).
Several students at once?
Workplaces which have several students on a placement simultaneously or under the supervision of different employees often have a named placement coordinator.
The work placement coordinator coordinates supervision in the workplace, liaises between the school and the workplace, notifies the school of the number of students the workplace is able to take, and ensures that each student as a named supervisor.
In addition, the coordinator
prepares placement agreements in cooperation with the school’s placement coordinator
is responsible for the supervision of students with the individual supervisors
contacts the supervising teacher, if there is reason to believe that the placement cannot be completed in accordance with the study plan
ensures that all members of the workplace take the students into consideration.
Before the placement
Draw up a plan
Prepare the workplace for the student’s arrival and his or her role in the workplace community. Don’t forget to explain who will be in charge of the student’s induction.
Draw up a practice placement plan. Take into account
the length of the period
consideration of the student in the workplace community
key objectives for the placement
tasks aligned with the objectives: tasks should be sufficiently varied with an appropriate workload, the student is guided and supervised, and he or she should have opportunities to observe other employees performing their tasks
the student’s free time
schedules of weekly meetings vis-à-vis the supervisor’s work duties
the student’s accommodation, pay, collective agreement and other practical matters.
Individual aims are determined in cooperation with the student.
Practice placements may include contents which are of specific interest to the student as well as other, new contents identified by the supervisor as important to support learning and experience.
Students should also learn that work duties often include routine tasks, and also get a range of experiences from different tasks in the workplace.
