Function and Responsibilities
Advises the Minister of Health on matters relating to nursing and midwifery.
Regulation- Issuing and renewing of licenses/registration
Issues license to registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse, Nurse Specialist, Psychiatric / Mental Health Nurse, Midwife , Enrolled Nurse and Nursing Associate. Nurse’s and midwife’s licensing/registration is by endorsement and must meet BNMC’s requirements as set out in application form. NB (Enrolled Nurse is a closed category and no further additions are made to this register).
Renewal of registration /License must be carried out every two years. Nurses including enrolled nurses, midwives and Nursing Associates must meet requirements as stated in Re- registration Instructions.
Provides Verification of nurse’s license.
Sets standards of practice for nurses, midwives and nursing associates.
Approves nursing education & nursing assistant program at Bermuda College.
Awards financial assistance to nursing or midwifery students or qualified nurses or midwives who are furthering their education.
