Rain Doesn’t Dampen Interest in BHCS MRI Open House

Despite heavy rain, members of the public turned out for Bermuda HealthCare Services’ (BHCS) Community Open House on Saturday, September 26, to learn more about the organisation’s new Siemens MAGNETOM Flow.Neo MRI.

Visitors to BHCS at 19 The Lane, Paget, had the opportunity to see the new 1.5 Tesla MRI system and speak directly with BHCS representatives about MRI examinations, patient comfort and advances in diagnostic imaging.

BHCS Founder and Executive Chairman Dr Ewart Brown said the community’s response reflected strong interest in advanced healthcare services available locally.

“We were pleased to welcome members of the community and give them an opportunity to learn firsthand about this important investment in diagnostic imaging,” Dr Brown said. “Our goal is to make advanced medical technology more accessible to patients in Bermuda while providing a more comfortable and efficient MRI experience.”

The MAGNETOM Flow.Neo features a wider 70-centimetre opening designed to improve patient comfort, along with artificial intelligence-supported imaging and Siemens Deep Resolve technology, which can accelerate imaging while supporting high-quality diagnostic images.

Visitors also learned about the system’s Siemens DryCool technology, which requires minimal liquid helium over the lifetime of the magnet and supports greater operational efficiency.

Throughout the afternoon, members of the BHCS team answered questions and provided information about MRI examinations and the referral process.

BHCS thanked the community for its support and acknowledged the staff and partners whose efforts contributed to the success of the Open House.

Patients are reminded that a doctor’s referral is required for all MRI examinations. BHCS does not accept self-referrals.

Bermuda HealthCare Services (BHCS) presented veteran Somerset cricketer Dion Stovell with the 2026 BHCS Bummy Symonds–Dennis Wainwright Safe Hands Award, recognising his outstanding performance during the 2026 Annual Cup Match Classic.

This marks the second time Stovell has received the Safe Hands Award, having previously won the honour in 2024. His second selection adds another distinction to a celebrated career in cricket spanning two decades. Stovell captained the Bermuda team during the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup qualifying campaign and has represented the country in numerous international competitions. His selection for this year’s Safe Hands Award provides a stellar conclusion to his sporting career.

Stovell, who brought his Cup Match career to a close this year after making his debut as a colt in 2006, played a significant role in Somerset’s emphatic victory over St. George’s. In his final appearance in the Annual Classic, the veteran all-rounder scored 52 runs and finished with match bowling figures of seven wickets for 67 runs.

The BHCS Bummy Symonds–Dennis Wainwright Safe Hands Award carries a $2,500 prize and trophy and recognises outstanding performance and excellence during Bermuda’s Annual Cup Match Classic.

The presentation at Bermuda HealthCare Services in Paget was attended by Vincent Hollinsid, Administrator of the Award; Dr. Mahesh Reddy, BHCS Medical Director; Dion Stovell, 2026 award recipient; Mrs. Valerie Symonds, wife of Calvin “Bummy” Symonds; and Mrs. Natalie Wainwright, wife of the late Dennis Wainwright.

Dr. Ewart Brown, Founder and Executive Chairman of Bermuda HealthCare Services, said:

“ Dion Stovell has given tremendously to Bermuda cricket, and it is particularly fitting that we honour him at the conclusion of an outstanding Cup Match career. His performance this year demonstrated the skill, determination and competitive spirit that have characterised his contribution to the game over many years .”

“ At Bermuda HealthCare Services, we believe that supporting our community must be demonstrated not simply in words, but by our deeds. Whether through this award, our scholarships, internships, or other initiatives, BHCS remains committed to recognising achievement, supporting our people, and investing in Bermuda. ”
